In the mid sixties Mrs Ricky
Stap in Perth, Western Australia started
breeding Chow Chows under the prefix Hendah. In 1974 her first import from the UK arrived, Aust
Ch Edlen Coral Rock (Jason). Jason was a beautiful boy who will always hold a
very special place in Rickys heart.
Among his achievments he was awarded Best
Open Dog in the Perth Royal Show under Mr E.H.
Schache (NZ) in 1978 which had an entry that year of 2504 dogs. In 1976 Ricky and her husband Danni imported Edlen Crucinda from the UK and Junggwaw Yang Tsao from the Junggwaw kennels in 1981. The Junggwaw chow came out of three months quarantine too shy for the show ring but he sired some very nice puppies, including three Champions. In the early eighties, Ricky formed a partnership with Mrs Elizabeth Stoner and Betabear Chow Chows came into being. This has been a successful partnership , a small kennel concentrating on quality, not quantity and always aiming to improve the breed by producing sound, healthy chows, true to type with excellent temperaments.. Aust Ch Bearcat Shane, from Edlen Duke of Wellington and Tauleo Yvonne of Bearcat, was imported from the Bearcat kennels in the UK along with Kyong Chinese Jade of Bearcat (Erica) from Weircroft Romeo and Thursfield Jessamine. This lovely combination is behind the many champions Betabear Kennels has produced in the last decade. Another chow to have very successfully promoted Betabear Kennels both in the showring and as a most successful sire of champion stock was Betabear Manchu, (Manni) from Ch Blugrass Knight Rider and Chowburg Mado Muchka, the sire and dam incorporating all Betabear lines over many generations. Mannis brother was Betabear Black Sultan who went to Taukai Kennels, Queensland. In 1986 Ricky realized a lifelong dream to import a chow from her home country, the Netherlands, and semen from Dutch and European Ch One Man Show from the well known Royal Club was imported. The semen has been put to Suewong Tessy which produced two very nice pups, Aust Ch Betabear Prinsof Orange who remains with Ricky and who in turn is siring some very nice puppies who have been placed in selected show homes in West Australia, Victoria and Queensland. Remaining semen will again be used in the future and Betabear Chows are looking
forward to continuing to consistently produce excellent quality Chow Chows. Enquiries: Mrs H Stap: 08 9419 2167 Mrs E Stoner : 08 419 1656
